Jose’s family has a rich history in the Cuban sugar industry predating the communist revolution. After the company reestablished in South Florida as South Bay Trading Company, Jose began his career in the early 1980’s representing his family’s third generation in the sugar related engineering business. His roles involved sourcing manufacturing equipment from closed mills for his overseas clients within the sugar industry. As a consultant for these clients, he also advised on shipping logistics, procurement and inspections for their mills. Ultimately, this niche specialty led to him to open South BayBuilders, a general contracting company created to provide in house dismantling services for recently closed sugar mills. By the early 2000’s South Bay Builders had established themselves among the preeminent dismantling construction companies within the sugar and power industries.

Since joining KCP, Jose has served as a Senior Project Manager overseeing dismantling and demolition for the firm’s Brownfield redevelopment properties. His expertise allows KCP to conduct thorough due diligence and financial projections on ancillary sources of income generated from the dismantling of power plants and other industrial properties. These income sources include secondary market equipment sales and the sale of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. As an authority in dismantling complex mills and factories, Jose identifies potential financial and logistical pitfalls, assisting significantly in the firm’s overall risk management.

2001 - 2002 – Breaux Bridge Sugar Factory, Breaux Bridge,LA

This project involved the purchase, dismantling, shipment and re-installation of a complete sugar factory from its original location in Breaux Bridge, LA to Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic.  South Bay Builders was responsible for complete project development and was tasked with obtaining financing to dismantle, load, ship and re-erect the Sugar factory in theDominican Republic. Approximate Value of the project was $22,000,000

2003 - Evercane Sugar Refinery, Clewiston, FL  

This project involved the sale, dismantling, loading and shipment of the assets of the Evercane Sugar Refinery to a client inMalaysia. Approximate value of the project’s scope was $3,000,000

 

2004 - 2005 - United States Sugar Corp, Clewiston, FL

Project involved the purchase, dismantling, loading, and shipment of the entire boiling house and milling tandem of the Clewiston SugarMill. The project involved a substantial amount of scrap sales as some of the assets were not sellable in the time allotted for the project. Approximate value of the project was $6,000,000

 

2006 - 2008 - United States Sugar Corp, Clewiston, FL –Bryant Sugar Factory, Pahokee, FL

This project involved the purchase of the entire sugar factory and sale of the assets. The majority of the factory’s assets were sold to Compania Azucarera Don Pedro, a sugar manufacturer located in thePhilippines. The equipment was dismantled then either loaded and shipped or scrapped on site. Approximate value of the project was $30,000,0000.

 

2013 - Florida Crystals Corp., West Palm Beach, FL– Atlantic Sugar Mill, Belle Glade, FL

This project involved the dismantling, loading and shipment of parts of the mill to other company-owned factories in Mexico and Belize. Partswhich were unusable by Florida Crystals Corp’s mills became the possession ofSouth Bay Trading Co. Ultimately, these parts and were sold to other clients or scrapped on site. Approximate project value $7,000,000

 

2016 - Florida Crystals Corp., West Palm Beach, FL – PalmBeach Power Co.  

This project involved dismantling, loading, shipment and scrap of a 60MW Cogeneration power plant at the Osceola Sugar Factory in BelleGlade, FL. The Cogeneration plant was built in the late 1990’s and never reached full operation. After many years of bankruptcy litigation, South Bay Builders was hired to selectively demolish the plant while leaving the entire structure intact. This was to allow for possible re-purpose for another factory. Approximate project value $7,000,000
